Accelerator cable problems solved!

Accelerator cable problems solved!
I have a 95 xjr6 with a problematic throttle cable. It is broken at the plastic part that anchors the cable to the actuator. This has caused problems because I was never able to get a full 100% at wide open throttle due to the loose cable and I was unable to properly set the potentiometer causing performance problems, eventually the cable would get stuck and cause a high idle. Unable to find a new cable anywhere because this cable in no longer available as it just is not made anymore. I decided that all i needed was to replace the broken part for a new and improved replacement. Long story short I had the cnc shop draw up the plans and the will let me know the price for production on monday. The best part is that this replacement will allow you to use your existing cable and replace the broken plastic anchor with a cnc aluminum part, this should last forever. Should any one need one of these let me know, I will be getting mine made asap

jeremiah joint?
now the jeremiah joint, thats funny! maybe the name will stick. Whatever it will be called it will be ready in a week or two states the cnc shop, seems they are really busy and a one piece project just is not on the top of their list. Wow, one single piece by itself costs 250.00, shop says only will give discounts for large orders......I didnt want to spend that much on such a small piece but my car runs like &^%$# with the accelerator cable the way it is. I know what my car can do, any thing less just is not the same. might as well spend it or my kids will !!!!

Doug,
I was able to get away with my broken cable for about two years with the same zip tie method of holding into place. After time i was only able to achieve 90% or so at wot and car was just not performing to the best of its ability. With your cable the same way how much % of wot can you achieve? Im told that this is a common problem.

I dunno, but I'll check :-)
I've never "felt" like I was getting anything less than full throttle but ya never know.
Have you ever re-tensioned your cables? My experience is that they go slack over a period of time. This might cause a lack of WOT as well?
Cheers

replacement parts are in
The new accelerator cable anchor is in and I just wanted to share a pic in order for all to see. It feels great and the best part is i can now get the full 100% out of my potentiometer which will allow me to finally reset my potentiometer correctly. The shop made three and made me a deal on them.

Are the items the you designed capable of being used on the cruise control side of the cable as mine is stuffed and the previous owner used some sort of resin to stop the cable coming loose
I have been suspecting this for a while as the reason my throttle not getting all the way open also with my sticking throttle I get some times

yes it goes on the acctuator side of the cable, cruise control. I had the very same problems that you described, could not get 100% throttle, idle would stick at times. I put it together with superglue but it broke after a week. I used my cable for years broken at the end but eventually it gave me problems and I was unable to properly set my potentiometer because I couldnt get a 100% setting, at best it was 90ish. I had no other choice but to have this made as a new cable is no where to be found because they are no longer made. as soon as I get my sc back from magnum powers i will get my car together and reset my potentiometer as i now have full 100 percent throttle. I have only two left should anyone be interested, a good thing is you can use your existing cable, get rid of that broken plastic anchor for a cnc part that will never break.

i held back on selling the remaining two cable anchors I have left because I had a problem with tps readings and wot percentages. Long story short the percentage of wot you will be able to reach is totally dependent on your current tps and what it currently reads. My old tps was able to reach 100% but when it failed i swapped out with two aftermarket and two oem original equipment and I have never been able to reach 100%, this was driving me crazy! But it was expained to me thats just the way things are and regardless of what percentage reads out on the scanner the throttle is open 100% I guess they dont make original tps/potentiometer they way they use too, wot throttle reads 95% and the car works fine. I have the last two available jeremiahjaguar@yahoo.com
