Air Filter Box Mystery Port

Air Filter Box Mystery Port
Hello everyone,
I was having some misfire issues with my XJR. So I started looking at the fuel and air take systems. While I was looking around, I noticed that there is an open port (looks like something was attached to it at one point in its life).
What does this do? and shouldn't it be plugged in? My understanding is that apart from the opening to take in the air, an air filter box is otherwise sealed.
All help is appreciated

The one in question is for the flexible rubber hose that goes to your air injection pump, home of frequent failures and associated P0411 codes. The hole you have labeled for air injection appears to be the test-bed for some previous owner with a brand new holesaw and a keen hankering to use it.... on something..... anything!!!
I think, anyway... when I finish breakfast I'll amble out to the shop and snap a pic with only one of those ports showing.

Some guy, I spy the remnants of an intake gasket in your pic. You have my heartfelt sympathy....I just completed that task this past week and found it a wholly frustrating and hateful task!
This thread spurs me to think......I should perhaps obtain one of these caps and cap off my '95, as the air pump has been inoperative since purchase. So conceivably I could be drawing "dirty" unfiltered air backwards through the (failed) air-injection system?

The Electrolux air pump has a solenoid valve that is electrically operated to only open when the pump motor is powered (4 wires, 2 for motor, 2 for solenoid valve). The valve should be closed if the motor is not powered so there SHOULD not be any exhaust/unfiltered air entering the filter housing from the pump.
If the valve has failed then all bets are off, exhaust could enter but it will need to get past the inline check valve on the steel tubing from the 'B' bank manifold.

Thank you everyone for all your help I will just plug the hole somehow.
It is on the bottom of the air filter box, to see it you must remove the entire fox (one 10mm nut to unscrew and a couple of clips to unhook) and turn it 180 degrees.
