AJ16 Oil Pump Chain Question
Hello Everyone,
I am remedying my AJ16 timing chain rattle and as I was replacing the dampers, I noticed that the chain for the oil pump was extremely loose (damper was hardly engaged with chain at all).
I understand that adjustments are made by pivoting the oil pump chain damper. My question is how much slack should be in this chain?
Thank you, any advice would be appreciated.
Michael
New damper fitted, I have about 2mm slack in the left hand side of the chain

I found that on mine years ago.
The oil pump damper was at the other end of the slot than it should have been, clearly someone been there before me.
I set it so it just allowed a SMALL amount of play in that slack side of the chain. Right or wrong, what the heck, it worked and the engine is still sweet after 20 years.
