Alarm.... factory disabled?
Hi, for the time we have had our 1996 X330 Majestic we have believed the alarm was fully working as the alarm "chirped" on the 2nd push of the fob...however as a result of "issues" in regard to a garage repair (and tinkering with the remote), we have had to get the boot open (which was locked, guessing in "valet" mode) and reset the fob to work as it was before. All is well there, but on reading it seems that our alarm does not (and never has) worked..it is an ex. Singapore car and it is stated that "some" countries disable the audible alarm as per local regulations, does anyone know if this is a possibility for ours?
Many thanks,

Hi,
I understood that some countries require to disable the bip / chirp done when you use the remote. Mine is coming from Germany and has a switch on the engine compartment to switch on / off. It is neatly installed, probably by the dealer, to comply regulations (or so I assumed).
Doesn't make much sense to have a silent alarm. For that, we already have the key with the chip, isn't?
Regards,
Jorge

Yes it seems strange not to have the use of the an audible alarm, and I am really trying to find out if this is likely to be the reason for me not having an alarm....the Jaguar Owners manual P12 of the "Security" section says: "Note: In some markets, legislation prohibits the use of alarms and audible signals. In such cases, the sound source has been removed from the system"....
or maybe there is another reason?..although everything else seems to be working....

raldev - I don't think that's a valid test as the action of putting the key in and turning on ignition resets the alarm so it should start.
kleman - the "chirp" for alarm set/unset is a programmable feature in IDS (Jaguar diagnostics system) so I'd be surprised if the switch you have was installed to overcome the chirp by the dealer.
