Alarm system foto of controller?
I was told this item is for the alarm system. What it is doing hanging out of the dashboard, IDK. It makes beeping noises sometimes, The locks activated while I was outside of the running vehicle yesterday, so that could have been a disaster. I left it in the right hand position, and it’s not beeping anymore, until I find out more before I mess with it. I have no manuals for this car. Any quick tutorial would be wonderful. Maybe at least what the three positions do? Is this part of factory install alarm?
I’m afraid to touch it right now, as I’m trying to get this to be my daily ride and I have other pressing needs. I don’t know how to lock the car when I’m am outside of it. TBH not a big concern at the moment. The doors do lock when I take her out of Park and during driving, and randomly other times 😡.
From a previous thread which I started in the wrong forum, I will be checking some items but does jaguarforums have any fuse box diagrams that I can access. Or the best place to find them?
thank you,
tom

Not part of original car
Your original alarm system is in this video
There are a couple of different versions of the security lock control modules located behind the panel fwd of the trunk car's left trunk hinge
Search Genuine Jaguar Xj 1995 - 1997 (from 720125 To 812255) Classic Parts | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts
Your security system wiring is on page 201
www.jagrepair.com/images/AutoRepairPhotos/jagxj1996.pdf
Fuse blocks om page 21
X300 1996 LWB.pdf (jagrepair.com)
Your security lock control module must be powered to start the car so no fuse removal in that aspect

I don’t have the security fob, just a metal key and valet key
So I watched the video and learned there is a key fob for the original security system. I have no fob. Maybe the little box replaced it?
now I think I will have to test the three settings on that little box to see if I can operate the system.
one clue is the little box used to beep at me and one time when the horn alarm went off, it was turned off by inserting the key into the door lock and turning it.
I don’t recall where the switch was when the alarm sounded. The alarm had gone off when I had a bad battery and alternator and I was attaching a battery clamp/jumping the car, so all manner of electrical issues were happening.
I’ll start messing with the three settings but I did find the manual for the car after watching the video and saw the shelf in the glovebox, so thanks for the video.
Best,
Tom
