Alternator stuck in bracket

I am in the middle of removing my alternator. I removed the upper and lower bolt. The alternator is pivoting but will not come out of the bracket. There seems to be a sleeve that is going in between the alt bracket and the alternator (where the bolt fits through)which is preventing me from removing the alternator.
This sleeve is actually sticking out of the bracket a bit which makes be think that this sleeve should be entirely in the alternator. Am I correct about this (I will know tomorrow after I pick up the replacement alternator)?
How can I move this sleeve so the alternator can come out.
Thanks!
Jomo

The shouldered bushing you see on the fwd leg is only as thick as that leg
The bushing stays in place
Alternator pulls out from top only
with the bolt removed a long screwdriver will pry the alternator out from being simply pinched
Before installing the alternator have the new alternator spin tested at the store , new out of box reliability is questionable
Been there , done that

And yes I will have the alternator benched tested before I leave the store. BTDT once too many times.
Thanks for your help.

I am taking a break from actually removing the alternator from the car now.
Well back to work!

BTW, the replacement alternator checked out fine. I just hope that it is not intermittently fine.

I take it you're talking about Part No. 2, below.
Try taking a tap and threading it in by hand just enough for it to 'bite', then pull it out while wiggling the alternator to take off the strain.
If not, try passing the bolt through from the opposite side while keeping it cocked, so the threaded tip will also bite into the bushing and push it out.
Regards
Richard

My understanding is that the bush, part number 2 in the diagram, is a tight fit in the mounting bracket but can move a little to take up clearance with the alternator when the mounting bolt is tightened. You should be able to force it in the 'out' direction without too much trouble, this would also allow for replacing an alternator with a slightly wider mounting.
Cheers,
Jeff.
