Default ambient temprature sensor issue

So, i had error code 12 on my climate control, whet to investigate and realised that not just the sensor was missing but the entire brake duct.
so i purchased a second hand unit, finally got around to installing it,
cleared the codes on the AC,
but damn, no reading from the sensor “- -“ is all i get.
the error code has gone so the sensor has continuity and is completing the circuit, if i unplug it the code comes back,
But the sensor is not working.
now before i buy a new one, is there anything i am missing? Anything i can try?
and if i need a new sensor, does anyone actually know anywhere that has new ones? Preferably Aussie, but will buy from overseas when i need to.

The sensor is a thermistor ( semiconductor ) that needs power from the testing meter to the device to read correctly , this is different then a thermocouple that is reading resistance through the device

This means you can't use a pocket 1.5 volt test meter

The calibration chart is on page 100

so how exactly would i test it?
like i said atm all i know is the circuit has power as it lights my little led test light, and the sensor completes the vanishes as my error code vanishes.

Since the chart is for return voltage to the climate control ECU ( your meter in reading voltage does not supply power to test the device ) you would use a different method

You can nick the insulation on the X color wire as the connector is connected

You would have to use a very good ground stud

Do you have a noise suppressor ( long cylinder under the car by the alternator) not installed in the same area as you may be hooked up to a spare connector ?

The noise suppressor is hooked up to the alternator with a connector in between and all X300s came with them

no idea about the noise suppressor i will look.
but i must be connected to the right plug as it comes from the correct connectors, with the correct colour wiring, and connecting to it removes my climate control error code.

as far as testing hoes, interesting as i noticed there was a nick on the insulation on the wire and i thought “thats odd” but of the wire a has been nicked it would stand to reason that the wreckers tested it. And if they tested it i assume it worked before they sold it.
probs gunna be the weekend before i can get back under the car.

The nick has to be resealed as is very prone to corrosion under there

It may already be compromised and miss leading as calibrated correct reading to the climate control ECU

The nick most likely came from the previous owner that had issues so that would make the sensor suspect

valid connector hooked up makes sense

yeah i always reinsulate everything.

if the sensor is busted finding a new one is probably a PITA and buying 2nd hand is always a crab shoot.

There has to be a good Jaguar salvage yard in Sydney

The sensor is probably the same part # on the later V8 version of the X300 being the X308 ( 1998 - 2003 )

As they are identical Denso systems

i have yet to find anywhere of good help. There are two places i have found that are jag specialists that have not had any of the parts i have previously asked for, and even interstate i have had some issues. Seems that when spares do come up they seem to go quick, i dunno, i have asked in the regional thread but got no helpful responses so i dunno keep trying and maybe one day i will find.

btw, seeing as how helpful you are, did you see my thread regarding gear shift interlock. Lol…
