Default Best car battery for 95 XJ6?

The battery for my xj6 is slowly dying so I'm going to be in need of a new one here soon. It has an Eveready general purpose 58r CCA 580 in it right now so should I just get a new one of that or is there a better/more efficient battery I should look into?

Thank you much.

You can always at the amount of space taken by the battery, and then consult manufacturer or standard fitment charts to look for the biggest battery that will fit the space with the correct post configuration. You will also need to consider the mounting bracket arrangement.

So other than that it doesn't really matter?

As long as it is a 12 volt battery and has more cranking/reserve amps than the original you should be good to go.

However, you must also consider whether your battery is vented by a hose as is likely on your model. If that is the case, you *must* use a battery with such a vent arrangement and ensure that the vent hose is properly fitted.

Interstate Battery - Size MTP49 (but check, I think some early X300 XJ6/XJRs came with size 47).

Firestone, Fred Meyer, etc. carry them as do many independent shops.
I paid about $100 in the summer of 2010 - Firestone had a special.

My battery vent hose is missing. I'd love to see a picture of a proper factory setup in order to correct my car.

Jjags,

I’m also looking to replace the battery in my USA 97 VDP, which seems pretty small compared to the length of the battery tray (certainly not original).

Based on the BCI battery specs http://www.rtpnet.org/teaa/bcigroup.html, and a reference on the forum https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-x300-xjr-26/battery-trouble-34676/, it looks to me like Group 49 is the biggest I can fit in there.

As far as “best car battery” goes, I’m giving some thought to one of the high-tech AGM (absorbed glass mat) batteries.
Not the Optima, both because I think it would look weird, and because a rectangular battery can have so much more volume, and presumably store more energy than the 6-pack look of the Optima. I'm particularly interested in long reserve time.

These are the two I’ve found so far:
Braille Endurance AGM Group 49 battery B10049 www.braillebattery.com
Odyssey Battery Dry Cell PC1350 www.odysseybatteries.com

Of these two, I’m favoring the Braille battery
They both have some pretty impressive specs and features, but also pretty high $$$.

I know it's ridiculous but I bought the B10049 for $283 shipped on Amazon.

Sorry its been a while since I've been able to get back on here, but I just ended up getting a decent Interstate battery. I didn't have the money to get a braille battery, but this seems to be working quite fine for now.

Thanks to everyone who helped and responded. I really appreciate it.

Default battery

Hey,

I just put an Interstate MTP 93 in my 1996 VDP. It is a big battery like the original.

Default Hey

I had an 800 cold start amp battery in my car. It went bad and a 650 was put in. Ever since, my car has not been right. I have had 2 alternators put in with this amp battery. Is it the battery? My car is now dead and when I jump start it, the jumper says low voltage.

I doubt your alternators went bad because the battery was a 650 cold crank amp battery, but there are a lot of factors at play. If the "car is dead" then the battery is most likely dead, so why not get a nerw battery recommended for the car. In all the BS above, I did not see the one thing that makes a Jaguar battery a little unique, and that is the overflow drain tube.

Why BS? There aren't any really egregious errors in
the preceding posts. The Braille and Odyseey might
be a bit over the top.

The vent was mentioned in post #4 3 years ago,
the day after the original post.

Jaguar Battery : Din 88 to Din 100 or better (DIN is a battery shape and the the subsequent number is the amp. reserve, terminal post is sunken) any reputable brand may have this size and shape, no need to go for fancy ones.

DIN, Deutsches Institut für Normung (German Institute for Standardization).
