Default A bit of a sag.

I was doing a little job on my car when I noticed that it is sitting lower on the drivers side rear (RHD) than on the opposite side. Just recently a bit of a knocking/clunking has materialised around the back end and I just thought the rear suspension/ bushes or whatever were due an overhaul. The odd thing is that the knocking seems to be coming from the side that is higher, as in "normal". I say normal because it is more in keeping with the rest of the car.

I took a look see around the rear end but couldn't see anything apparently obviously wrong. No broken or misplaced springs, so, any ides on the possible cause and cure.

Thanks in advance.

Mr. Good,

My Carnival XJ6 has a similar condition. Age and wear! Most likely the soft spring buffers at the top of the rear springs have been squashed unequally over time. Replaceable when doing the shocks. Also various bushings, especially the shock bushings, can cause clunking noises. My cars have a few. When I do that job I also want to see if the rear springs are still the same height when uncompressed. Great info on here about rear shocks/springs work. Getting under the car is the most difficult/scary part! Someday.
