Both key fobs just stopped unlocking and locking the car
Hi all I need some help. I have a 1997 3.2 XJ and yesterday both the key fobs stopped unlocking and locking the car. All the LEDs light up when I push the buttons. I did last night try and sync both key fobs to the car by opening the drivers door and the boot, then turning the key to position 2, the rock the valet switch 5 times and then push the bigger lock button on one key fob then rock the valet switch again and pushed the big button on the other key fob. I had no audio tones when I was doing this but all of a sudden both the fobs were working. Both fobs were still working this morning and then again tonight when I left work but just got home and both fobs have stopped again. I tried syncing the fobs again but this time no joy. Once in a while the car may unlock and lock on the fob but it’s like once in 100 pushes. Any ideas?
That’s for that. So I have the 433 mhz system. In the boot between the boot lining and the rear seats I found this little black box with two little wheels on the top of it, does this have anything to do with the remote operation?
433 should be the system for 97 ( I think it goes back into late 96 )
So it should be a match up with the security lock control module part ( information needed , you swapped this out ) # as this is country / region dependent
Not so much a functional dependent but each countries frequency bleed over tolerances , 433 can't bleed over too much as 432 to 434
So there are two black boxes that u have discovered once I pulled the boot lining away. Have no idea what the black and red twisted wires are for, you can trance them back to the battery but I can’t trance them going the other way. Once again both key fobs are working fine at this moment in time but no doubt they will both fail to work fine tomorrow. I’ve not had the car since April and until just the other day they were both working just fine
If you had the factory premium stereo setup you would have the extra components ( separate CD changer and separate final power amplifier with speaker output wires )
These will be located behind the left trunk lining and a CD changer will be exposed ( I don't have premium , so I have no stereo components in trunk )
The device may be a blue tooth receiver for stereo input , do you have the original factory Jaguar / Alpine stereo head ?
The Security ( SLCM ) is located slightly to the inboard of the fuel fill neck that as mounted has a slight lean to it , it has 4 like connectors in a row that look like 1

thanks for the reply mate. Year I have the stock head unit, well I think I do. I will have a look at the SLCM unit on Monday when I’m next with the car. 👍🏻
A blue tooth receiver would not be anything factory or original
The original Jaguar / Alpine head would be marked as AJ9500A on the data plate , if it says Jaguar on the front that should say something ( did they do a lot of modification of the stereo system )
that device is definately something stereo related which i have no idea what it is. i had the standard sound system but also the cd stacker in my boot.
looks to be an aftermarket install as the plug with all the wires does not appear to be a factory style plug
The large multipin plug in your picture looks like the mobile phone interface plug.
You can see it in the you tube video at 1 min 30 sec on post #11 on this thread https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...engine-277993/
this one is definitely mobile phone connector as mentioned

as i mentioned this plug with the wires for power and whatever else does not look like a factory connector it does look aftermarket.
i would be really interested to know where the wires run.
maybe it is a modern aftermarket bluetooth solution.... not sure why it would need so many wires going into it tho......
is there any kind of part number or manufacturer stamping on the box?
JAGA1 does not mean anything by itself
With the original factory option of a mobile phone there must be a way to remove the stereo sound output to the speakers replacing with the mobile phone output to the speakers
You will see the 3 tele wires in the pic I made
So the factory configuration is for the phone interface at the dash at the Jaguar / Aline head
