Default Brake Calipers

So I'm replacing the brakes on my 96 XJ6, and I got EBC Redstuff pads and EBC slotted & dimpled rotors. I will be getting the fluid changed, and might look into replacing the brake lines. But the one thing I must also change are the calipers. I will replace all 4.

This is the first time I've bought brakes, so I'm kind of confused about calipers. It also dosen't help that the three websites I've looked at, and the parts diagram I have, all don't have matching parts numbers. Except for the JLM part, however. I have looked at Jagbits, Britishparts, and XKs Unlimited.

What is the brake caliper core? Does anyone know the part numbers for the X300's brake calipers? I'm asking around my British car forum, but they're a little behind in times (they specialise in BL stuff).

I did hear that I could have the brake calipers rebuilt.

Mmmmm, confusion reigns, not unusual.

Pads and rotors is selective, so whatever rocks your boat I suppose. I have only ever used the OE spec items, but then I dont track the car/s, unless standard daily traffic is considered "racing/tracking", which I sometimes think it is??. Mind you I do not dabble about, I do get on with it, but thats me.

By "brake lines" I am assuming you are referring to the actual "hoses", and NOT the metal lines????. Good idea with the hoses however.

Calipers, well, if they are NOT leaking/weeping, let them be. IF, however, you want to cover ALL the bases, simply fit new seals/boots, and flush that stale old brake fluid, and enjoy the car.

In all my years I have NEVER replaced the actual calipers on any of my Jags, re-kitted 2 of the 20 odd I have owned, and have never had issues with brakes/stopping any of them.

I flush the fluid at purchase time, and then every 2 years after that, NO exceptions.

I have had more issues with the actual master cylinder than the calipers.

Ok, that pretty much answers my question about the calipers.

And yes, I meant the hoses. Which leads me to another question...

Should I bother with aftermarket hoses, or just put on OEM ones? I saw that Magneti Marelli made hoses for my car. Also, what about Girling?

If you're refreshing the calipers/pads and discs, why not add braided hoses into the system, they're a bonefide performance upgrade and give a less spongy pedal. BF Goodridge make a kit that'll fit perfectly....

Again, the choice is yours.

Remember that Jaguar never actually made many items, they were mostly made by some outside supplier specialist in that particular field, and used by Jaguar and other makes as well. OK, some things were specifically for that marque.

Girling has been a brake component manufacturer ever since brakes were invented, so I reckon they might have got it right by now. Down here we had PBR, and I use there product mostly for the hydraulic components. The rotors I get are RDA branded, and standard OE spec ($70 each).

Braided hoses are a good idea for some. I have NO experience with them, as I said before, I have never had any issues with the specs that the car/s came with in that area.

This article sort of put me off of Stainless Steel/Braided hoses.

Jaguar Stainless Steel Braided Brake Hoses

I also emailed Girling about a price, because a price isn't listed on their online catalogue.
