cant reset sensor codes for inspection
I have a 1996 jag xj6 vand plan, just bought few weeks ago and i tried to get it inspected and failed twice. All 4 codes are not resetting. The previous owner recharged the battery so i guess rest the comp. Does anyone know how to reset these codes so i can get the car to pass inspection? BTW the car has no error lights on either. Thanks again!

OBDII DTCs are stored in a non-volatile memory and can be cleared with a scan tool or sometimes, some faults will clear by repeated engine cycles if the fault is no longer present. Even if you clear the DTCs you will still need to set readiness in the ECM (P1111) or you will still fail. The inspector will know if you just cleared the DTCs right before you brought the car for inspection (readiness tests not performed or completed). Disconnecting the battery sets the readiness status to P1000 (readiness tests not performed or completed) so every time it is disconnected you have to start all over again to set the readiness parameters (EVAP,HO2 sensors,Catalyst etc.)
Stop disconnecting the battery and buy a cheap scanner to read/clear DTCs.

Thanks guys for the info.I never disconnected the battery the previous owner did. I be driven it a few hundred miles bit tried reinspecting it yesterday.no good. The guy at firestone said try going 63 mph for 15 mins w/o touching the brake .he had a Ford and thatswhat he was told to do. So I'm going to try that .not sure what else to do.

An AJ16 should reset the readiness monitors within about 40 miles of driving or 3-4 cold start cycles.
Try this:
Unhook the battery. Wait about a half an hour. THEN tough the battery cables together, no, whatever you do do NOT short the battery itself, but ground the battery hot and cold cables themselves.
Reconnect battery, take car for a drive, etc. It should work then.
