Car has thrown its first code on me - 1316
Hey Lads,
Got my first code on the XJ6 today.
CEL came on and the code is 1316 for excessive misfire detected. There are no other codes listed.
The idle has definitely become lumpy. I can feel the car bobbling at stop lights but as soon as I get on the gas, the car seems smooth. I changed the spark plugs as I had not done that with this car since I got it. The plugs that came out looked pristine and the lump idle remains.
I have my local shop that has a much better scan tool than my simple OBDII scanner. If there is indeed a misfire, will their tool be able to identify it and from what cylinder? Really don't want to get into a long drawn out investigative process.
Cheers
Bernie

The misfire detection function of the OBDII system on these cars isn't all that great, in my experience.....so nailing down the exact cylinder might not be easy even with a better grade scan tool.
There's a fair-to-good probability you have a coil (or coils) beginning to fail. Lacking any concrete evidence the usual procedure is to buy one new coil and try it on each of the six cylinders.
If it come down to a coil, beware of off-brand replacements....which are known to have much shorter lives than the originals
