hello everyone, I have a 1996 XJ6. And when I park my car on a hill or on a slant where the car is packed upwards, when I put it on park it bangs a loud bang from underneath, it will sometimes do it as soon as I put it in park, or sometimes when I turn it off, its been happening for a few months now, bust isnt doing it everytime, its just once in a while, any ideas? Thanks.

 

Check the trans mount and the carrier bearing.

 

I don't have a snappy answer for your specific situation but will add that you should set the parking brake before shifting into "Park". This way the weight of the car is on the parking brakes, not the transmission.

If you don't do this you might give it a try to see if it changes anything with repsect to your odd noise.
