Where are these items located on a 97 XJ6?

The carbon cannister is under the car just forward of the rear subframe, left side, next to the muffler. Its a black box. Some cars have dual canisters (possibly in CA), in which case there will also be one on the right side.

Purge valve is below the air filter housing, mounted in the body framework behind the left headlights.

These are the evaporative emissions control components. Also known as EVAP.
