Central locking

I doubt if the locking solenoids will ever wear out.
Car hijacking does occur even in civilized countries and a locked door is reasonable barrier to anyone unless they have a firearm.
By the way the system uses a speed sensor to feed information to the door locking computer which is in the left hand side of the boot or trunk ( depending where you live)
I am not aware of any option to disable this function.

Bill, like most issues, there is a way, see my attachment. I also found this feature annoying.
In line with comment by Motorcarman, I believe this feature could be configured on or off via the dealers at the time, however very few may have the required equipment these days.
The wire to be disconnected could of course be reinstated at any time if required.

As you say there is a way but it would not be a simple case of a "setting." but actually requiring some surgery/modification on the wiring.
Modifications by previous owners can be a pain.
My current X300 which came from the deceased estate of an acquaintance had a mod. to the electric aerial function.
The aerial would not work and my acquaintance had two other aerials in the car boot all of which were serviceable. He had been trying!
I eventually hunted down the problem and found a discrete switch in the back of the centre console glove compartment which interrupted power from the radio.
Not in favour of cutting the wire.
