The Check List
Well, the XJ6 is sold and gone. And Im making it official that come spring I will have an XJR6 sitting in my driveway as planned for the last two years.
These are things Ive gathered about the X300 over time and anyone wishing to chime in and add things I should def be aware of or look at feel free. I'll have 3 months or more of responses before I make the purchase then!
Things to watch for in X300's:
1) Power steering issues Ive seen many topics/problems with.
2) Throttle Body must be clean at all times, can stick, and throttle positioning sensor can be linked to tranny issues. I replaced this sensor as well on my 93 XJ40.
3) Regular XJ6's did not have the GM auto tranny but the XJR6 and V12 did. Correct? Seen mixed review about the GM tranny being good but others think its crap.
4) Since I want the XJR6, it has TWO fuel pumps?? Something to be on the look out for or not as far as problems?
5) Starting issues Ive heard alot of you talk about on all X300s. Coil packs, etc are common problem?
(and minor issues)
6) Crappy memory seats that fail even though I could care less about this feature...[&:]
7) The clock in center dash on a lot of X300 cars Ive seen fail as well.
Anything Ive missed?? Thanks a bunch!

RE: The Check List
1) Leaky hoses iis what I've heard, mostly
2) Yes, and its a big job on an XJR
3) GM 4L80E on the XJR and V12, yes. Good strong gearbox but they don't last forever. Also, weak trans mounts allows too much movement and damages the wiring connector.
4) Yes, two pumps. No more or less troublesome than any other car
5) Coil packs and crankshaft position sensors
6) Yes, memory system goes wonky. Most, like you, could care less.
7) Clock displays fails, yes. There's a work-around fix with about a 50% sucess rate.
8) Cracked exhaust manifolds
9) Suspension clunksusually shocks and/or bushings
10) Lower radiator "octopus hose" is a bear to replace. Best to change it and clean throttle body at the same time.
11) Interior lights flicker-clean door latch switches
If I think of anything else I'll post back.
You can buy these cars for peanuts...so cheap that you can hold out for a primo example and still get a bargain.
Cheers
