Default Cigar lighter socket issue

So,

this weekend was the first long madien voyage for the jag, delaware to long island NY. everything went well EXCEPT for the cigar lighter ports. they weren't working so i couldn't charge the GPS. no biggie, i looked in the left heel board fuse compartment and the fuse was blown. 5 seconds later it was replaced. but i plugged in the GPS and still no power. hmmmmm, so i pushed in the factory lighter its self and click it popped out and was red hot.

so the ports work but will not charge any 12volt accessories.

Does anyone know of this issue? what is the fix? swap out the ports?

im at a loss for this one.

Good suggestion, but its ALL accessories i have plugged in, cell chargers, lights ECT, nothing works in the socket except the factory lighter, which as previously stated gets red hot.

It pretty much HAS to be the socket connection unless someone has managed to cross the connection wires. The + lead is the small tit on the bottom, and the barrel should be -

So,

are both the front and rear sockets on the same 12V connection?

and they meter out as folows

front port : with the "tit" as positive and wall as negative 14.13V DC

rear port: with the "tit" as positive and wall as negative 14.34V DC

Then the ports are good. Chek that the contacts are clean so that it has good contact with whatever u plug into them.

I would agree with that, although most accessories have a spring loaded end.

Try another socket and see what happens.

It seems strange that both have the same issue though.

Then the only way could be purchasing a socket from another brand car. As long as the outer diameter is same it will fit.
