Updated: I had to use the factory method of pulling the fulcrum bolt to get the shock assembly back in. I used zip ties where you would have the chain and cut them off after the assembly was in place. All done.

I used a thinner bolt to hold the shock in place as it was easier to remove once in place

A small 'scissor-jack' between the hub and 'bump-stop' will lever-down the hub enough to get the spring/damper OUT.

I remove the caliper and hang it out of the way.

Twirl the damper top mount and remove from the car.

As has been said already, each to their own...
The A frame removal method enables both shocks to be tackled at the same time, does not disturb brakes , suspension arms or sensors, and avoids the use of spring compressors. Just sayin' ...!

In reply to the earlier question, the A frame removal method simply entails unbolting the A frame plate and removing it. Using a jack under the suspension arm, release the lower shock mounting bolt, and unwind the jack to decompress the spring. Undo the 4 nuts holding the upper spring mount to the car, and the entire shock spring "unit" can be removed from the car.
