Default coolant level sensor warning

So,
i noticed the other day my coolant level sensor was on, but i checked my coolant level and all was good.
after driving a little i went to recheck again, i opened the reservoir whilst it was hot, vented some steam and then checked it and it was still good.
got back in the car and the warning had gone off.
then 2 days later, it has come on again,. but coolant level still remains fine.
is it just a matter of replacing the sensor or is there something that can be done in regards to cleaning it or something?

The connector on the sensor is different than the V - 8 X308

I have a part # on an older computer

The X308 has issues with the connector

On the page before the specific level sensor circuit, it has the sensor values ( full and low ) but you only need to check the full value ( active is probably the low )

The circuit is on the instrument cluster page

I've also had an intermittent sensor recently despite sufficient coolant, and jiggling the connection has so far worked to get the light to go away. We'll see how long that lasts.

On mine it turned out to be the magnet in the reservoir sticking at a low level after fluid loss from a sheared hose clip.

Without seeing it there are a couple of possibilities if a magnet is involved

The magnet can be in a ring that floats up a shaft

or the magnet can swing / float over to a reed switch that gets attracted to the magnet and makes

G’day Spud,

The coolant level sensor fits into the tube in the bottom of the reservoir and around that tube, inside the tank, is a floating ring with a magnet in it. The magnetic field closes the reed switch in the level sensor when the fluid level is correct and when the level goes down the reed switch opens and you then get the warning light.

Have a look at this post I made some time ago, there are some pix of a coolant tank opened up so you can see the innards. In the pic of the two tank halves you can see in the top pic, which is the bottom half, a white ring to the left of the hole this is the float with the magnet in it.
The coolant low light illuminates quite a bit lower than the MIN level in the tank.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Without removing or draining the tank does your instrument cluster change by removing the connector ?

With the connector Jumper'd ?

If it is a capacitance level sensor the results would be ..............

In your scenario the float can be mechanical stuck on the low postition

Bang on side

I've seen the magnetic float get stuck at the bottom of the tank several times in the past. It is easy to free it up from the opening by gently using a long screwdriver or the like.

I have an extra sensor (and they are available new) but I have not ever needed it.

Jeff, you weren't kidding around with that reinforcement... it looks like a tank that came out of a tank!
