Default Coolant Problem in 1995 XJ6?

Hello,
Yesterday night I was driving and noticed my coolant was low, so I continued driving and reached my destination. I checked my coolant and it was gone. So, I poured more in and then a mile later, my engine was smoking. I opened the hood and there's no coolant in it.
Long story short, I had my car towed to the auto shop. Any ideas as to what he problem may be?
Thanks so much,
Dexter

I suspect you have a coolant leak....faulty hose, most likely.....and the "smoke" is actually steam.

Its a hose or the actual radiator? Also, I suspect a hose is easier and cheaper to fix...correct?

That's for the repair shop to determine. Could be either.

Almost certainly.

Ok thank you. Could it be leaking out of the hose even if there's no pressure in the hose and he engine is off?

Yes.

Often a small leak won't manifest itself unless the system has pressure....but a big leak will allow coolant to pour right out regardless of pressure.

Ended up being multiple hoses leaking and an obliterated water pump. Not worth the repair bill.

That's only $300 or so in parts if you can do it yourself! That makes all the difference. It is such a nice car to cruise in, as long as you can work on it when it needs it. Plenty of help on this forum too, if you are so inclined.

BTW Doug, you are very kind...

These are just routine repairs that any car will require.
