Curious what relays, and hence functions, are not installed
I took the following two photos of the right and left hand heel board (in front of rear seat) fuse/relay panels while I was replacinng the 10amp fuse for the tail lights.
I've noticed before that several relay locations are empty, and assumed these represented functions in the wiring harness that aren't installed in my car.
Since the relay and fuse locations aren't really labelled, I thought I'd see out of curiosity if anyone can identify what the missing relays would have powered just by looking at the photos.
As you can see in the right heel board location there is one blue and one yellow relay location empty.
With the left there are two purple and one yellow location empty.
For example, I assume that at least one set of empty relay locations is for the heated rear seats that weren't available only in 1997 with the first year introduction of the new rear seat design.

OK, was able to get the factory electrical guide for 1997, and here's what I found.
For the RH heelboard, the two missing relays are specified to be:
1) Blue: LH rear seat lumbar deflate relay. That's an interesting one as I've never seen an X300 with a lumbar adjustment, much less power. I assume this must be in the executive models in Europe that have the power reclining seats and extended console. My 1997 XJR here in the USA definitely doesn't have power lumbar adjustment in the rear seat.
2) Yellow: RH rear seat heater timer. This absence in mine also makes sense as no 97 XJR had the heated rear seat AFAIK due to the redesigned for 97 rear seat not quite yet having been engineered for heating. That being said, I suspect it would be trivial to fit heated rear seats from a 98 by taking the wiring, switches and a matching bottom seat cushion from a 98 since it appears that the harness is all there. As much as my family complains about the cold rear seats in the winter, I may very well look into this.
For the LH heelboard:
1) Violet: The violet relay location where the relay is missing up front is for deadlocking, which USA cars do not have. The other missing violet relay location to its right and in the rear of the relay block apparently has no function and is not labelled.
2) Yellow: Same, LH heated rear seat timer.
So it looks like I'm not missing any expected functions, other than the possibility of heated rear seats.

REAR seat lumbar relay...
Yes, my X300 XJR has power lumbar support on both FRONT seats too, as every X300 I've seen does as well.... but are you saying you have power lumbar adjustment for your two REAR seats?
The missing blue relay in the RH heelboard was labelled for the REAR seat power lumbar deflate, left side
I do not have lumbar adjustment of any kind for the rear seats, especially power. And I've never seen it, but suspect it may be for the special versions of X300 that have the reclining power rear seats.

Nope, sorry missed that detail.
This statement threw me off: I now see references to the rear both before and after.....
