So I'm modding my exhaust on this 97 I just picked up and I noticed something interesting about the AJ16. Although it's an inline-6, the headers are split with 3 cylinders each. I know the exhaust is basically a Y-pipe. But couldnt I do a true duals if I pipe each header instead of a Y-pipe?
I wonder how that would affect power. N/A engines dont actually need back pressure, do they?

Even on 'true duals', the modern performance design theory now incorporates an "X" or 'H' pipe into the design as a balance tube. If you do want 'true duals' the X/H pipes are only about $75... or your custom exhaust shop can just cut and burn in a crossover balance tube. (Yeah, we never did this back in the 60's either.)
