Distorted speakers, X300
Hi
I have a nice X300/94. Three out of all three door speakers are distorted. The voice of them is weak and broken. Only the speaker in the driver's door is working. Or so I thought.
I dismantled both door speakers from the left side and tried speakers in different locations. I found, that the problem is not a speaker, but the input to a speaker. I measured the voltages from speaker inputs, and found, that while the location which worked (the driver's door) had abt. 2V the rear door had abt. 10V. I also found out, that when a speaker was connected to the malfunctioning door, it snapped and the membrane of the speaker went "back". There is a small video attached to show the operation of the speaker. Also the tweeter related to the malfunctioning door was silent, while the tweeter of the working door was ok.
According to the wiring diagram, there is nothing between the speakers and the radio. Color codes of the wires indicate the same.
Does anyone has experience of helpful advice regarding the issue. I would be grateful to any help, as I,m quite confused with the problem.

It is not the same fault, but this TSB says that the connector behind the radio can be jammed in wrong, which ‘might’ cause issues like yours.

I randomly have the same with mine except that appears to be happening to all of them.
There doesn't seem to be any trigger for it, the sound just goes all crackly and eventually clears so I surmise that it is the amplifier in the radio is playing up.
The another annoyance is the steadily increasing volume which apparently is designed in to cover increasing noise with increasing speed.
Which is stupid.

That is the AVC. It can be turned off/on but just pressing the volume control for 2 seconds.

There is one stereo head unit ( Jaguar / Alpine AJ9500A ) for the 2 stereo speaker output options
The standard option uses built in 2 X 2 channel Toshiiba TA8221 final amplifiers to directly power the speakers
These 2 final amplifiers are on the very back wall of the stereo unit
PDF following soon from my old computer
The premium option has a wire from the same head # to the back trunk to a separate power amplifier
There was something about this round wire bundle ( tan in color ) getting pinched and shorting out
The encoder switch ( on / Off ) effects how much the amplifier " gains " and this switch would be a easier 1st try on uncommanded volume fluctuations
