Our '93 XJ40 had a distributor also, but the ECM controlled ignition timing based on the signal from the CPS, so adjusting the distributor had no effect unless you went too far and changed the firing order. I think the problem with your early XJ40 will be that the crankshaft pulley is narrower than on the later 4.0L cars, so Andy's bracket won't align the sensor properly. We'll have to wait till Andy replies to know for certain.

Cheers,

Don

That’s what I did with my bikes!

I offer a slightly different design of revised crank sensor bracket for 4.0L and 3.2L AJ6 engines before VIN ending....667829 to replace part number EBC1253. The standard crank sensor bracket after this VIN and used on all AJ16 engines was EBC5017.

I don't believe Helen has received an enquiry yet from LordUnicornFury. We have whichever bracket you would require in stock.

I can reprogramme the ignition timing of your engine ECU. However, you can achieve a similar effect more cost effectively with one of my revised brackets. I only recommend a reprogrammed ECU for owners whole have increased the airflow of their engine by more than 10%, are doing a DIY auto to manual transmission conversion, or fitting the engine into a non X300 vehicle.

my plans are SS headers, Mina exhaust, and Mina air intake, so bracket then? I think im eliminating catalytic convertors in the process too

A revised crank sensor bracket will work with your proposed changes. I recommend that your new exhaust system includes bosses for the 2 downstream oxygen sensors, even if you don't fit catalysts. This will ensure that you can benefit from closed loop fueling control. If you don't have downpipe catalysts, the catalyst monitor strategy will trigger a fault and turn on the check engine light.

In terms of a Mina cold air intake, I have no experience of them. But I have tried a pod filter in my XJR, and I have reverted to standard filter box and paper filter, for the following reason: I played around with a thermometer on a long wire, taped to the standard snorkel. Even after idling in summer for 5-10 mins after a long hard run, with under bonnet temps around 60'C, when travelling again at say 50-60mph the temp at the snorkel intake would be ambient again after 1-2 miles. In other words, the standard air intake sucks in ambient air when moving at open road speeds.
Also, using an OBDII bluetooth device and iPhone software, I can max out my XJR airflow meter at about 4000-4500rpm at full throttle (I do have a 10% larger Powerhouse drive pulley). So I do not believe the standard set up is restrictive, and I don't think you can improve on intake temps - just my amateur opinion.
If your car is supercharged, a new Bosch electric intercooler water pump is well worth it.

I was disappointed to read that you weren't able to measure a more significant reduction in 0-60mph time given your comment about the subjective feel. However, it can be quite difficult to produce accurate back to back comparisons in vehicle performance. Many factors can create significant differences in tests that were intended to provide back to back comparisons. For instance, testing a vehicle with a full tank of fuel or a near empty tank would change the kerb weight of the vehicle by 3%. Conducting the tests on different days when the ambient temperature varied by 10degC would change the air temperature and hence engine power output by over 3%. The under-bonnet temperature will vary for a given ambient temperature depending on how the vehicle has been driven prior to each performance test. This can also affect the temperature of the air entering the engine.

I hope that you find the increase in performance after fitting my bracket is noticeable, even if you haven't been able to measure an improvement.
Hi Andy
I know this is an old post - but are your brackets still avvailable?
best
Ian

I feel like this thread will soon consist mostly of alternating posts of people asking if the bracket is still available, and me answering - yes, just send a mail to helenstodart@gmail.com to order one.

Not only can I confirm that we are still making these brackets, but we have just past the milestone of the 900th bracket. Thank you very much to everyone over the years who have contributed to the success of what has become know in Jaguar circles as, the "Andy bracket".

As others have been kind enough to write, please just contact my wife Helen at helenstodart@gmail.com for more details.

Just picked up my XJR yesterday. One of your brackets was offered to me with the car for a further $100. Having never heard of the idea, or your product, before, I thought about it for a few seconds and said, "Yes please!" Yet to be fitted, but I'm encouraged to find this confirmation that my mental processes are still functioning fine!
