Dodgy keys or locks on X300?
I've just bought a set of keys and locks on eBay. Hopefully they will fit my early XJ8. Looks like he has a few of these.
Anyway, £35.00 - brand new!

That looks a bargain - even for the boot lock alone which often seizes. However, I'm not sure about the ignition key. I was under the impression (certainly on x300 cars) there is a transponder in the key which acts with the security system/immobiliser. If that key is not within a certain distance from the exciter box/ring then the car won't start.
Certainly don't see any problem with the other locks though but please await more info from others to see if it's ok or not to use the new ignition lock and key.

Funnily enough it's the boot that is playing up. The door lock has seen better days too.
I'm not too bothered about the ignition key, but a local locksmith says he can clone the chip in the key for me for a few quid.
I was quoted between £130 and £150 for a set of locks and keys from a breakers yard so this is indeed a bargain.
