Door handle cable

Door handle cable
I just opened up the inside of the drivers side door on my 95 X300. The problem I wanted to investigate was the fact that the inside door handle would not spring back in position. I figured there was something wrong with the cable. Well I figured right. The cable was frayed on the latch side to the point there was only one single strand left. Now the problem is getting another cable. Any suggestions guys?

Some people have had issues when replacing door handle cables, myself included. My car had a broken drivers door handle/pull when I bought it, but there was a new replacement, including a cable in the boot/trunk.
So, I set about replacing the handle and thought it no harm to replace the entire assembly, cable included. When finished, the door wouldn't lock properly, because the cable was just a tiny bit tight/short. Barely noticeable when compared with the original.
I attempted to route the cable as cleanly and directly as possible, but it was still under a tiny bit of tension.
I couldn't see any way to adjust it and so, I refitted the original cable and the problem was solved. Perhaps the old cable had stretched marginally, who knows?
Just making you aware of this, so you'll know what the issue is, if indeed it arises.

I looked at Welsh Interprises. The part cost $40, but the shipping was $19. And that was the cheapest shipping. With the fit issues I think I will try to DIY. I have a cable that fit the housing that looks to be at least twice as strong. If I can figure a way to attach the ends and provide some adjustment that should work.
I cannot understand why Jaguar never test the minor systems that can be so important such as getting out of the car. I don't know of any other car that has had door mechanism failures. Even the older XJ6s had similar problems with door mechanism failures. Not even the 49 ford which had the worse door mechanism I have ever seen, but it worked.
