Driver Door Will Not Lock

Driver Door Will Not Lock
Why, after installing a new driver side interior door handle and cable, does the door lock not work? When I use the remote to lock the car, all doors lock except driver side. The other door lock pulls go up and down 3 times before locking. Not able to lock driver door at all.

Time to take the door apart! Click here:

There are many threads about how to do this job. It is tedious, but sometimes it must be done.

There are Christmas tree biting inserts holding in the bottom row and you use a interior trim tool to pull them out . Replacements if needed can be found at the auto part store . In a pinch a putty knife protecting the plastic with a flat blade screwdriver works to leverage them out . A cheap trim tool is at Harbor Freight as I found mine . There is one of these Christmas trees on the upper forward most point as you swing the door open . Take a sample size with you if you need to replace as they come in many sizes .

When the door locks on my ‘92 ‘40 went out of sync, the tech sat in the car and manually locked and unlocked the doors a couple of times this re-synced the locks. A bit more difficult with yours as the buttons are flush with the door cappings. Perhaps you could lock simultaneously and then use the interior door handles to unlock? Press and repeat to see if that helps?

1JerryL,
Sounds like the cable needs to be adjusted or loosened some way. From my understanding is that the cable is too tight, therefore pulling much harder the opposite direction than the mechanism that locks it. My car did the same exact thing (unlocks, locks, & unlocks) or vise versa. The way it ended up working is that the cable popped off the rear part of the door and then reassembled it. I then noticed the cable was held by a couple threads at the rivet. Which in turn gave it slack and finally was able to lock it and unlock with no problems. In no way is this a fix but I am sure it'll help you find the solution or at least I hope!
