In the end I "fixed" the flashing transmission warning light by removing the bulb. Needed to for government roadworthiness test. Flashing warning lights not allowed.

The car is still going strong after its ECU/coil issues:-) Those non-original Lucas coils must be OK.

The best reference for locating relays is the Electrical Guide. I can't find anywhere in your thread where you mention the actual model year of your X300 or I would link you directly to the correct manual, but you can download the guide for your MY here:

As an example, in the 1995 Electrical Guide the relay locations are shown in illustrations on page 26 of the pdf file.

P.S. It's helpful to add your car year, model and engine information to your signature line so other members don't have to ask in order to offer accurate replies.
