Factory Jaguar Mud Flaps - effective, good fit and quality?
I've heard that esp with the XJR's wide tires, the rocker areas on the XJs take a beating from road debris.
Has anyone fitted the factory Jaguar XJ mud flaps? I see that Jaguar had factory mud flaps for the XJ, the NOS is still floating around for a reasonable price.
Jaguar XJ6 and Vanden Plas 1995 - 1997:
Front: Part Number JLM11971
Rear: Part Number JLM11972
I was wondering how decent (or ridiculous) they looked? Also, are these the correct parts?
More importantly, did they fit well and go on without any significant modification (e.g. drilling body work). Ideally they bolt on to existing mounting hardware, etc?
I guess it would also be important to ask if they actually seemed to work and provide decent protection for the rocker areas.

Here's my 2000 X308 with front and rear OE Jaguar flaps (same as X300) which were fitted from new:
On a black car they are unobtrusive but would be much more obvious on a light colour.
I wouldn't have bothered with the fronts if they hadn't already been fitted. It's only the rear that takes a hammering from road debris.

I prefer the ones for the X308 than for the X300. They are a bit rounder:
Part #'s
JLM20436
JLM20437
Available from Terry's Jaguar for $40 a pair

Interestingly just went to Terry's site and looked at the X300 and X308 flaps, and their shape looks almost identical. Both are rounded:
X300 Front

X308 Front

.... kinda look close to identical to tell you the truth. Although if the photos are accurate, the X308 version looks like it might be a bit taller. Interesting.

Yes, they both fit either vehicle. The X308 are a bit taller and a bit narrower in width than the X300 variant. It's up to personal preference. They are virtually identical. Mere millimeters difference. When they are sitting side by side, you can see those slight variances.

My opinion and taste, is that they look good on the front fenders! Not so much on the rear. I added a set to both my six and twelve in the front only. The XJR above looks to have the much smaller Jag rear set (than Graham's rears) on the rear fenders, but they are too small to do much. Besides, I like the clean look at the rear.
My XJ6 has aftermarket rims that are slightly wider than factory, and with the big General tires the fronts get a little more protection from debris. But still, there's quite a bit of sandblasting down there anyway (along with the front of the car, and headlights). Probably worse here because of the sandy desert environment.
They are very easy to put on, although the wheel must be removed for access. One screw into the plastic fender liner, then metal clamps wrap over the tabs and around the metal fender lip. They are very sturdy.

Definitely a matter of opinion, but I've never felt these short flaps would offer much protection. You would need full-on truck flaps i.e. wide, and hanging to within millimeters of the ground to be of any real use. I also think they spoil the look of the car. I try to keep the Jag clear of unsealed roads, that's what the Land Rover is for! Anyway, IME the front valance catches more grit than than the sides; can't do much about that.

If you don't mind the looks they can only help and can't hurt. Over the years I've had my sills repainted twice. Last time I had the painter use that 'Shutz" texture method which adds some durability.
I also now need the rear bumper painted aft of the rear wheels.....but probably won't do it. The entire finish is getting rather worn and weary. Seems silly to just paint small sections at this point and a quality total paint job is way more than the market value of the car.
Cheers
