Found 95 XJ6 on CL. Should I buy?
I found this car on the Craigslist seems too cheap to me. I'm going to look at it this weekend, and if I don't buy it I'll tell everyone where it is. Anything to look at, I called the guy and he told me the ran good and the body was good, but that it could use a cleaning and new oil. An hour after I talked to him he made a new post with newer pics.
and I just found the VP while uploading pics, wow thats pretty sweet looking

Anything to look out for. I'm going to see both cars now, so if anyone want particular pics of either I'll try to get some. I'll post the location of whichever I don't get Monday. Though in reality I'll probably find something big wrong with both and not be able to get either.

You can probably find "something" wrong with any 10-12-15 year old used car.
The 95-96-97 XJ6s are really good cars. I can't think of any Jaguar-specific things to look for that are of any serious consequence-just look for the usual used car things: leaks, tires, trans shifting, exhaust smoke, dirty coolant, noisy differential, steering vibrations, functional AC, etc. The same stuff you'd look for on any used car.
As far as minor problems that you might see...
Radio, clock, and climate control displays inop. Interior lights flickering. "Memory" function of the power seats doesn't work correctly or at all.Auto dimming mirror inop and/or leaking. Suspension noise/clunks (shocks, usually). Shift interlock reluctant to release.
I know there are some other minor things that crop up but can't remember them all right now. Others will chime in.
Cheers

RE: Found 95 XJ6 on CL. Should I buy?
Ok I just checked out the VDP, "ODO INOP." is written on the windshield, the interior is pretty rough, especially considering the cars I have with 150+ on the clock. It is a used car dealership off the highway so I doubt he has any service history.
I saw the condition and ran, its not something I want to sink 1100 dollars into and all the time it needs in preventitive maintence. (cam tensioners)
Anyone know if the X300 AJ16 suffers any similar catastrofic (sp?) failures?
Here is the link for those still interested.

RE: Found 95 XJ6 on CL. Should I buy?
I don't know for sure, I was just assuming at least 900 dollars for the v8 tensioners and the rest for misc. "odo inop". + 145k = I'm not paying 2800. I'm not even in the market for a Jaguar although I did just total out my daily driver, I just saw the running xj6 for 1500 and thought I might have a pretty awesome deal on my hands.
Unfortunately, I couldn't go see the xj6 today, because I got brake fluid in my eyes while trying to change the clutch master and slave on one of my project cars. btw the Alfa Romeo forum guys are ********

It was crap. Body damage, on the bumper, front quarter, door, and rear quarter, in the pattern of being vandalized (hit with a bat) and hail damage on the hood. I was told it only needed a good wax, but the paint is so rough and oxidized I can't imagine waxing it at all without tearing it up worse.
Cracked leather, stained carpet, middle brake light torn out, and front and rear ashtrays FULL of old cigarettes.
175K on the clock but no warning lights.
if you still care...
