Fuel pump 1995-1997 xj
Hi a while back my wife xj fuel pump died. Did some research and it's a pain in the behind.
I figured out a fast way that worked well.
Removed the back seat to be able to easily pull the rear window pad (or whatever it's called) unhook and remove the speakers. I had removed the panel with 4 screws to see under it. And there is the fuel pump.
I used one of those vibrating type saws and cut a "u" type shape and folded it up. Fuel pump in and out. Folded flap back down and used a hight temp epoxy. Reassembled seat etc. Worked flawless. Pump new after marked was 15 bucks.
If this helps great I have a couple pics to make it clearer but I'm not sure how to add to this page. E mail ryanneel@***.net or just text if needed 405-317-3580

Yep, seems like a few folks have put together their thoughts on how much easier this operation would be if Jaguar had just added an access panel in the rear package shelf:

Although I hate to majorly modify the factory build, I'll probably do the same when my time comes on the XJR. As long as it is done neatly, it shouldn't really matter.
And since the X300's rear suspension is laterally braced under the fuel tank, I can't imagine that cutting out a small section of the rear package shelf diminishes structural integrity?
.... my 1995 Riviera has a similar access panel in the trunk OEM, and it makes changing the in-tank pump an almost effortless affair.
As an aside, I tend to wonder how one would ever know if the secondary fuel pump on the X300 XJR was out of service.

Modified Fuel pump change
The metal was very thin and hard to imagine it offered any real structural safety and I went back with small "tabs" on two of the screws that go under one side of the cut portion, only 3 sides were cut.
I then went back with high heat epoxy, the stuff is like concrete.
After it's finished it's barely noticeable and once the pad is in the rear it's unseen. Id do it again. A lot less chance of something going wrong, losing something, forgetting to tighten, place the bushings etc. Didn't have to touch them.!
