Fuel Pump removal
#2
Umm, it is IN the tank, so tank OUT is the only way I believe.
I have read that some have removed the trim panel inside the rear screen, and elongated the speaker opening towards the centre of the car, and this apparently gives acces to the panel on top of the tank that must be removed to reach inside and remove/refit the pump assembly.
Mine is coming up and I will remove the tank. The 2 fuel hoses UNDER the car, up on top of the rear suspension cradle are a mongrel (so I am told), but the tank removal itself, whilst fiddly and time consuming, is not that bad. The tank has a drain plug inside the boot (trunk), so draining the remaining fuel after syphoning the majority out would be simple enough.
I would say a whole days "good" work for the first time, but that is a guess only.
My XJ-S tank took ages to remove the first time, but now its out inside an hour, familiarity simplifies all processes.
