Is there an easy fix for this problem, I've heard you can clean them but is that posible and if so where can I find it?

Thanks

If you remove the panel at the front of the trunk, you will see the sender unit right in the centre of the tank facing you. There is a locking ring that needs to be turned to the left to remove. Be careful not to damage it! Sometimes a long screw driver works, but I have been known to use a punch to carefully "persuade" it to turn. I would recommend you run the tank down to as low as you can before removing the sender, and remember fuel is explosive! Use great care when handling gasoline. I have never been able to simply clean a sender unit, and the cost is not very prohibitive to simply replace the whole unit and gasket and be done with it for another 200'000 Kms. Just be sure to snug it in well when tightening the lock ring. And make sure it is spotlessly clean.

Not a big job by any means. Have fun!

That's a great file to have on hand. Thanks Motorcarman! I love how they only allow .65 hours to do the tests!

Uppdate to this one... My car did the same thing on the first fill for this season. It has been sitting for 6 mmonths. I drove near to empty and the next time i filled it it came right up to the top.

Worth a try

I pulled the unit out last Friday and cleaned the contact with a fast dry elecical cleaned then hook-up the gauge in the car empty now reads empty and full reads full. I also put a little more tension on the contact piece..

Nice work! It sure is nice to just plain fix something, rather than replace it eh? I have been known to spend hours fixing a $2 part...
