Gear box problems Not shifting into park
I have a lot of issues with the parking lock on my gear box. It's so often a problem that I have removed the cover of the gear box so that I have easy access to it to disengage it. Recently however the car is not wanting to shift into park meaning that I have to use the parking brake. I have to fight to get it into neutral to start it and it does not want to seat into the first Drive I have to use the second Drive.
Is this a cable I need to adjust? What am I looking for. This is entirely new to me I've never done anything transmission wise on a car and don't know where to start looking. Not having to drop my transmission would be very ideal. But hopefully I won't have to buy a new gear box either.

Sounds like the shift cable may have stretched a bit. There is a threaded adjustment at the transmission end, accessible from under the car. See the diagram here: Gearbox Control Cable - Parts For XJ Series from (V)720125 to (V)812255 (X300) | Jaguar Classic Parts UK
