countyjag, the damper is completely different on the XJR. I wish I'd taken a photo when I had both of them in front of me.
Andy, thanks for the support and encouragement.
The car is going beautifully at the moment, but 2 months on, still has no MOT - it now has a slow powersteering leak, to be fixed this week.

I've just checked the Jaguar Classic parts website myself. It has EBC9768 for the supercharged engine and EBC11083 for both naturally aspirated engines. I would expect there to be different a part for the 4.OL supercharged engine from the naturally aspirated engine because the AC pulley is part of the SC pulley assembly. It may be integrated into the crank damper on the naturally aspirated engine. However, the website shown no part number for the AC compressor + SC pulley assembly are the 4 bolts that holt them together.

Al,
I drive an XJR daily, and have been through crankshaft damper grief, so I know what it looks like.
My post was in response to the immediately preceding post by XJRengineer, where he stated that the 3.2 and 4.0 dampers were not interchangeable, as the engines were tuned differently. As we all now seem to be agreed, this is not correct. The naturally aspirated engine dampers are interchangeable.
The most obvious difference with the supercharged damper is that it has an extra belt to deal with, for the supercharger obviously. Visually, this appears to have been achieved by attaching a drive pulley in front of the existing pulleys with four long bolts (which break easily if you try to unbolt them....). As I do not have a naturally aspirated damper to look at, I dont know whether there are holes drilled in it to accept the bolts, but I am wondering whether the "core" of the damper on the XJR is in fact the same as the normally aspirated engines, apart possibly from the holes.
