Harmonic balancer Key

Harmonic balancer Key
Had may 95 X300 balncer rebuilt. Sent it with the timing gear on balancer. After installing, engine will not start. Worked with squeal before. I am guessing that timing gear is not set correctly relative to the crankshaft keyway. Can anyone show or explain the proper orientation of the missing tooth on the timing gear relative to the key on the crankshaft? A photo would be helpful. Searched the site can not find photo showing both the keyway and the missing tooth of the timing gear.

I removed the timing wheel before shipping mine off.
IIRC, they are poka-yoke (stupid-proof) unless they drove out a couple of roll-pins to put it back together.
Someone posted about a broken key.... sure yours hasn't failed or escaped during installation?
I may have pics of the pulley/timing assy, but not sure they'll show what you need. Will post em if/when I find them.

Thanks for the photos. I'll have to pull the big bolt to compare. Geez senior moment from this morning. But then again did not pay any attention to the orientation. It may have been flipped 180. I was careful to watch the key, it is good and not sheared or pushed out.

Folow up: It now works. The rest of the story:---. Removed fuel pump relay, cranked a few times. No fire. Removed Crank bolt by resting breaker bar handle on floor, bumped engine. Examined key way and missing tooth by referencing Aholbro1's photos. The setup was correct. The key was present, verified with small dental mirror. Checked crank sensor for damage, was ok. A round of headscratching ensued. The problem must be elswhere. Re-installed crank bolt. For setting torque, tied one end of a rope to the round bar running under crank, wrapped several times around the AC drive pulley opposite direction of engine rotation, pulled tight and tied this end to the same bar. Using torque wrench torqued to 210 Newton Meters. The pulley slips a bit then locks in place to allow for full torque to be applied. I had left the alternator belt in place. More head scratching. I then decided to put the fans in place and connected them. Re-nstall fuel pump relay. Keyed on and off three times to be sure fuel pressure is up. Fourth time turned key to start, the engine fired and ran. THis was the same exercise the first time around as well. Thus I am at a loss why the previous round of 8 or 10 tries engine did not fire. By the way the fans were not in place and thus not connected. Perhaps the computer checks for presence of fan motors? Tried several re-starts, ech time engine fired nearly instantly, as it used to. Took for test drive, all is well. ----- Once again thank you Aholbro1 for the fast response with photos, truly appreciate it. And if I may, a plug for Dale Manufacturing, pleasant folks to deal with, fast turn around and a lifetime warranty on the bond job. Splendid folks.

Great news! Glad you got it sorted....even if you didn't sort it!
If you ever figure out what it was, post back here or on the "No start thread" Where I just linked to this one.
