Which ones did you buy from Amazon?
It's unlikely that any of them will last you a year. I believe this thread had someone try the Wells brand with not-so-great results.
In any case, please keep us informed in case we are mistaken. This forum is always interested in experiences with coils, especially if it's a good experience.

Here they are: 6x Evan-Fischer EVA13872042513 Ignition Coil Standard Type pack 1 per cylinder Blade 2-prong male terminal
Sold by AutoPartsGiant
Don't remember if I saw this brand mentioned or not. I only put about 5000 miles on per year so maybe I'll get lucky in that way at least. Because of the chance that I won't get lucky I went with as low a price as I could find. $37 per plus free shipping.

Now finally back in stock.
Due to the extreme weakness of the yen, I offer the limited time discount.
Soon the Japanese Cabinet will be assigned, so I don't have an idea how long I can keep this offer.
US dollars: $74 each inc. standard shipping
British pound: £46.5 inc. standard shipping
Looking forward to hearing from you guys soon.

I drove my car to my mechanic just fine. It sat outside overnight in the cold that night (it usually sits in the garage). He fired it up in the morning and it's only running on four or five cylinders.
Fired it up again in the dark, and two of the cheap coils SNG sold me are producing a beautiful light show.
I told them the chinese substitutes were no good, and I shouldn't have let them talk me in to changing my original order. Now I'm going to have to try and get my money back and order the real McCoys.

Any and all of the above
Intermittent and partial failures seem most common. A totally dead coil seems less common.
Spark leaks thru the boot are common
Cheers

Sorry to hear that.. (Assuming you're in the US/Canada) Give me a call and I will certainly be able to offset the cost against some of the new 'Made in Japan'' coils for you. If in the UK call the sales office and they will be happy to help also..
Regards

<PRICE UPDATE>
I am sorry to say but the source providing cheap boots discontinued making them, so I have to raise the coil price a little bit.
I will get Denso boots, so the quality will get better anyways.
In addition, I decide to state the price only in US $ in order to avoid inequity.
Including normal shipping(approx 2 weeks delivery), boot and gasket
$79
*12 coils left in stock
*Aside from the stock above, I still have 3 stocks with the last cheaper boots, so I can provide only 3 coils @$74. After they have gone, the price of $79 is applied.
*Express shipping with full insurance and tracking available. Approx 3-5 days depending on the destination. Not so expensive, it will be additional $20 at most.

It is a traditional coil like any other car coil.
Two wrappings of wire isolated by an epoxy and a steel core.
There is a metal can around the entire coil.
So from inside out:
Layered steel core
plastic spool
Epoxy
Inner coil with coated heavy gauge wire
Then another plastic spool
then more epoxy coating the fine gauge wire.
Thick layer of epoxy which is grey and not transparent.
Layer of transparent epoxy.
Metal can
Outer layer of plastic.
I tore apart two coils one of the cheap ones and an original lucas.
I cannot see any difference between the two coils.
Thicknesses of each layer seems exactly the same.

Actually, they are inductors, not capacitors.
It's probably obvious, but just because "Thicknesses of each layer seems exactly the same" doesn't mean they are the same. See Capacitor plague - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for a famous example of making things out of cheaper materials that don't last as long.
Given the price difference, I very much doubt that the chinese coils use the same grade materials and simply make the saving by cutting labour costs and profit.
