Hi-Res Audio Sound System for my '95 XJ6
Someone had asked me about the sound system in my car. I decided to go audiophile with it. I burned through 2 stock radios and the speakers were shot.
For the head unit I chose the single DIN Sony RSX-GS9 Hi-Res Audio with an internal DAC capable of 24bit/192kHz Wav, Flac, Alac decoding and also DSD decoding.
It has a standard USB port you can put a thumb drive in with Hi-Res audio files. You then control the play and organize the music using the phone app.
The phone app also lets you adjust the setting on the system. It has a built in FM tuner.
There is a mini USB port for devices needing an external DAC for Hi-Res. I use this with my iPhone with a camera adapter dongle which allows the iPhone to use the external DAC.
Works well for Apple Music Lossless or Tidal Hi-Res streaming. There is an analog input I use for my Droid phone which is an LG capable of fully unwrapping MQA files.
So for that phone I don't need any DAC since the LG G8 ThinQ has high quality DAC in the phone. (LG now out of the phone business).
For the speakers I used Herz in the doors (same size) and new tweeters installed (see photos) They did a great job installing new tweeters..
In the boot is the Herz power amplifier and a compact Kicker subwoofer. The system sounds great!

Now that's Premiium In-Car Entertainment! Nice work. It is not easy to get a clean, professional looking installation, you have to know what you're doing. I like how it is not obtrusive, space-wise and visually. Our Jags have always been lacking in this department. Yours is an elegant and high-tech solution.

awesome.
absolutely love it.
i won't be quite that high end myself.
well not to the extent of the the hi res in dash decoder but likely my system will evolve.
but i know i will drop some coin on the speakers.
last car system i did ran focal speakers, and digital designs sub.
STEP 1 - my thoughts are using an 8.8" android unit i have seen, as i want the multi functionality that it offers.
STEP 2 - and then running that to the amps to run 6.5" splits in the front, 6.5" components in the rear, and a 10-12" sub in the boot.
the HU i am looking at does come with a optical audio out so is marketed as having "HI RES" audio, however being an android system i have my reservations.
STEP 3 - so depending on how that goes, i will then possibly look at running a USB DAC from the head unit to be able to get the full high quality audio.
we spend so much time in our cars having a good audio system really makes the experience better

Thanks for posting. Can you hear the sub in the cabin? Did you provide an opening for the sound to enter the cabin? How many channels/watts for the amp? Did the tweeter mounts come with the tweeters, or are they custom? I would very much like to install a higher end system in my newly acquired 97 xj6.
