Default Hmm - SRS/Airbag/Fuel gauge Issues

OK I have read through the airbag diagnostic manual and I am going to go through it after I get an airbag simulation tool. I also have checked and redid the grounding back by the battery in the trunk for the fuel gauge However, today, at the same time, I received the Airbag /SRS warning at the same time the fuel gauge went from full to half. That to me seems like a grounding problem but going through the grounding manual I did not see what these had in common. I did, about 6 months ago swapped out my steering wheel so that may be my issue with the airbag. However, the fuel gauge too?

Since the power for the instrument cluster / fuel gauge is the Left heelboard fuse box and the airbag is the Right heelboard fuse box the common denominator is the ignition switch

You would have seen other problems with a multiple dependence on the 2 king relays opening back up

With the key in the 2 position rotated away from the 0 position .......

See ignition switch table on the top of page 38 of the 1997 wiring guide

jagrepair.com/images/AutoRepairPhotos/jagxj1997.pdf

On page 38 for point 5 double hash stop sign and 6 double hash stop sign this is pin 3 on the ignition switch connector witch should remain closed to the 5 pin after you relax the key after starting

this would be relaxing from the 3 position ( starter ) and back to the 2 position ( run )

The key is if the 5 pin on the ignition switch connector to car frame ground was not disturbed during your steering column tinkering or a loose connector if that's possible

I found green corrosion on my 5 pin in the connector

You can also be having the crash switch opening back up as this switch is apparently fickle

You can bypass this switch with a jumper on the 2 white wires and this worked for me and would be a easy try for yourself

I tool off the airbag on the steering wheel, which I replaced about six months ago. I prayed all connectors with electronic cleaner. I sanded down the ground and the location when the ground connects to. I then replaced everything. When I hooked the battery back up, the airbag indicator was gone.

I then went to the trunk and did the same thing to the ground location for the fuel gauge. It now shows full like it should, but only time will tell because it usually comes back after driving around. My next step is to follow your instructions and hope that fixes the problem

Thanks for the instructions. I probably should have done this while I had everything apart

Easiest thing would be the jumper on the crash switch and see if the faults return , thee are only 2 white wires and a third other color

I took apart my crash switch and spring parts went everywhere and lost so don't do that
