That debate was settled ages ago. Our cars perform best using 100% AVO.

The difference between the NGK's and the Champions was more of a change then the Andy's Bracket I put on. My Champions were put in 15K ago by the P.O's mechanic. In another thread I tell how I used to convince British bike owners to get the "modern" version of Champions out of their bikes by putting NEW Champions in my warmed up Bonneville and taking 3 kicks to start it and watching it have a lopey idle, then I'd shut it down and put in standard NGK B6ES's and it'd start first kick and idle smoothly. Champions of the past 10 years are nothing like Champions of the past...they are IMHO glorified fishing weights. If you want to run them and are convincied it's the only thing that runs well in "our" cars then have a blast running them just don't tell "my" car because it's convinced it runs WAY better on the NGK's.
Hi JTsmks

I read your piece about NKG's V Champions, So which NKG's did you use for your XJ6L?

Hi Mark

So which Champion Plugs do you recommend? I currently have RC12YCC installed and need to change them out soon?

Thanks for any feedback

///////// From the Champion site:
4.0
Stock: Champion 71 RC12YC Nickel Spark Plug
Upgrade: Champion 9201 RC12WYPB4 Iridium/Platinum

AJ16:
Stock: Champion 344 RC9YC Nickel;
Upgrade: Champion 9001 RC10WYPB4 Iridium/Platinum

///////// According to the Engine Service Manual:
Champion RC9YCC (except North America, normally aspirated engines)
Champion RC12YCC (North America, for normally aspirated engines only)

... the 12 being a slightly hotter plug.

So the RC12YCC is a "Double Copper" plug.
/////////////////////
At the NGK site, they state this part # for non-N.A. and N.A.:
NGK BKR6EIX ... is a "Fine Wire Iridium Tipped CE" plug.

Heat range is a "6", which contrasts the Champion "12" (NGK states a "5" equates to a Champion 11,12). A "6" would equate to a Champion 9,10 heat range ... why does NGK specify the same part #? That deviates from what the *manufacturer* states.

Anyway, "Double-Copper" ≠ "Iridium"

Also, if Jag calls for a 12 heat range Champion, why wouldn't one choose a 5 for NGK?

Or how about this ... has anyone tried the Champion Iridium?

Hi Caldercay

Thanks for the Spark Plug info... I think I will stick with the Champion RC12YCC if I can source some. I'm not sure where to get them. Any ideas?

I''m also getting ready to replace the Cam Cover gasket and well seals today to deal with the oil problem in the wells. I'm attaching some pics here of the spark plug wells and the IG coil.

I had read in other threads that forum sponsor S N G Barratt stock Champion RC12YCC but I can't find them listed in their catalogue.

Could be worth a call to S N G Barratt but if they can't supply, here's an Amazon listing:

Amazon.com: Champion RC12YCC Spark Plug: Industrial & Scientific Amazon.com: Champion RC12YCC Spark Plug: Industrial & Scientific

I think you can safely ignore the shipping charge shown in the listing. That would be for shipping them from US to the UK!

I'd think any of your neighborhood parts stores should be able to get them in a day.

I will say, though, that I've been flummoxed a few times when buying spark plugs. All the big name manufacturers are positively in love with 'replace and supercede'. Original types and designations are discontinued and replaced with a alternate type. Sometimes the new designations get confusing. Well, for me, at least.

Cheers

DON"T buy those plugs from Amazon. I tried that supplier and they will send you RC12YC plugs at twice the price (+ shipping!!) I can buy them locally and then tell you that there is no difference between YC and YCC plugs

They do not have the YCC plugs and haven't had them for years! I asked them to change their listing but obviously they can't be bothered or are doing it on purpose? Caveat Emptor!!

Or not.

I should've done some Googling before I spoke. Looks like it might not be that easy after all

Hi AllenG

So could I use RC12YC plugs instead of RC12YCC ? I can get the RC12YC locally at the Home Depot, they have them in stock?
Thanks again

I am going with the EBC8143 plugs. Since the dealer I was working with dropped the ball on me last week, I am still waiting for them to show up. According to the bulletin posted in 2/95 number 5.1-07, the ebc plugs are hotter, thus I think they are the RC12YCC. They are surprisingly cheap from the dealer. I'm paying $3.60 each. I don't care if they are out there cheaper because I am happy paying that amount.

As far as who doesn't like Champions and who does. My experience at the dealer led me to my conclusions. I saw some cars come in with ignition problems and the first thing we checked was the plugs. This doesn't mean that all other plugs are inferior. It simply means that some cars that came back to the dealer for service did have misfires caused by non stock plugs. As a dealer, our first part of fixing a problem is removing the variables. The cars we never saw back at the dealer could have run fine with other plugs in them. I don't know.

The only difference between the 2 is the RC12YC has a single copper firing tip (center tip is copper but ground is nickel) and the RC12YCC has a double copper firing tip (both center tip and ground are copper).

The nickel alloy center and ground electrode provide good wear characteristics and the extrusion of copper into the center electrode allows for an increase in conductivity and heat control.

So, I finally got my spark plugs. (I will never ever deal with Jag Main Line or Jag Willow Grove again!) They are Champion RC12YC. The packaging from Jaguar is questionable, but the plugs were not damaged.

Point is, If you find your plugs at Home Depot, go for it.

You guys are running around grabbing "lawn mower" plugs for your X300's??? That's priceless!!!! Sorry not trying to make fun but seriously?? As they say you can lead a horse to water.....but, well you know the rest. My NGK's have performed S-W-E-E-T all week, no more stumbles or stalls and pick up is well improved over the Champions...in all seriousness I hope you guy's find happiness, If I was independently wealthy I'd send you a new set of NGK iridium's to you just to put in for a week behind the new Champs so you could "feel" the difference. Cheers!
