I recently tried to get my brake pads and rotors but all of the parts stores want to know if I have 10" or 11" drum's or brakes?? I said I did not have the sport package so I assumed wrong and got the wrong size pads.. Now that I want to go online to find the right fiting rotors (metal to metal grooves) and the right ceramic pads.. Will my VIN# tell me what I have? The parts places online say that this item fits "1995: 6Cyl 4.0L "Gas, FI, MFI, Vin 7", AJ16" Base " or "1995: 6Cyl 4.0L "Gas, Fuel Injected, VIN 9" Base " or that this item fits "1995: 6Cyl 4.0L Base " That is all greek to me and I don't want non-returnable parts to show up on the doorstep that don't fit my car.. Can ya help me on this one? My VIN# is "SAJHX174XSC729526"....

I need the front brakes and front rotors, and they wanted to know what the size of the rear brakes were... I got the wrong pads already because they were so thick that they wouldnt fit over a worn out rotor much less a new one.. So I think there is two different sizes for front brakes and I dont know which one I have.. And what does the VIN 7 and VIN 9 mean anyways.. I have a 7 in my VIN sode but it doesnt seem any more or less important than the rest of the numbers and letters???

Your VIN number puts your car solidly in the the 95 production year. It shows to have the Sovereign trim package. (Probably has gold inlay in the wood and perhaps picnic tables on the back of the front seats.)
Bosch front ceramic pads are $117.07 and the rotors are $45 dollars each.

beside that some of the later XJ8 use a larger rotor and standard pads, the larger rotor increase leverage and provides better braking, and then theres the Brembo option. While you cant put larger rotors on a small rotor car without the correct caliper bracket, you can put the small rotors on a large rotor setup, but the pads overhang the rotors a good 1/4" or better......duh
