Default How do these clips work?! (Fuel injector elec

Hi guys. Short post as I'm out at the car now. I'm trying to replace an injector and have read the posts on how to do this, but I can't get the fuel rail off because I can't unplug the electrical connectors. One of the posts says I need to use two screw drivers to pry the clips open but I can't figure out how to do that.

Default Please confirm make/model of XJ

You might want to confirm the year of your XJ.

The X300 utilizes a very nice spring loaded clip on almost all the engine compartment connectors, and also does so for the fuel injectors.

You simple press the metal wire/bar down, and the connector pops right off. No tools are required.

They look similar to the image below.

good Point. Year is 1997 (I think this is in my signature?).
Yep, the clip looks like the middle one in your picture. So do I just need to push down on that metal bar?
thanks

Edit: just tried, and while the wire pushes down all the way easily, the connectors do not pop out. Even with a fair bit of wriggling and prying with a screwdriver, I can't get it out. I tried this on all cylinders and they're all the same.

Should be able to depress with your fingers the top metal bar on the plastic connector and they will release .

I tried to do that with no success (see edit to post above). It's just this bit that should come out right (image attached)?

The last Pic shows the 3 bolts that hold the plastic tray down . They must be removed for the whole tray to pull up with the attached electrical connectors .

Got it off thanks! I had mistakenly assumed that each connector consists of two parts and he top part can be removed individually and without removing those bolts.

Hahaha too late! Dropped one. Will have to retrieve tomorrow with a magnet.
Otherwise, I got the connectors out, the little brackets that hold the injectors onto the rail, and the fuel regulator off, but was not able to remove the fuel supply line as I only had one wrench and didn't want to risk twisting the pipe.

Anyway, good progress and should hopefully be able to replace the broken injector on my next attempt.

Thanks all!

Keep in mind the injectors are very hard to pull on to remove . Possibly spray with penetrating spray let set for a while and do not scratch or damage the not rubber but " Viton " O-rings before installing . Lube the O - rings before reinstalling the reassembled injector . I did see at one time the specific O - ring kit for the X300 on Ebay at one time . The last thing you want is a fuel leak on top of the engine .

Forgot to mention the lube as you assemble the O - rings on the injector should be very thin as to not break free and clog the fine injector passages . Also be careful not to cross thread the fuel rail bolts into the intake manifold for it would be a pain to repair the damage .
