Instrument panel warning light flashing

Instrument panel warning light flashing
I have a 1996 Vanden Plas. Recently, all the instrument panel warning lights started flashing, the gauges acted erratically and the airbag warning appeared on the odometer display. It seems to be an intermittent problem. It may not exhibit this problem for several days before doing it again.
Does anyone have experience with this and, if so, do you know the cause.
Thank you for your help.

Likely a coil going bad. Take the ignition coils cover off the top of the valve/cam cover and watch the coils in the dark while the car is running. If any of the coils exhibit a "light show" inside the resin cap, it is bad and likely causing your instrument panel hijinks. Even if none exhibit the "light show" one is almost surely going bad.
The next test would be to disconnect a coil one by one and replace it with a good known coil and run the car for a while, moving the new coil through all 6 until you find the coil that was going bad.
This is a well known symptom of an ignition coil on the way out....
And if you do find a bad coil or two, see the following IMPORTANT thread for buying the right coil:
