Issue with A/C
Hi everyone,
Before I take the car to the shop I wanted to see if I can get any opinions here from the Jag gurus. On my 1996 XJ6 the A/C does not go on. I do not hear the compressor working or turning on. I just get mildy cool air.
Any thoughts are much appreciated guys.
Kindly,
Mike.

Try adding some freon to the system. an inactive compressor usually indicates a lack of freon. R134a is relatively cheap at most parts stores and if you buy a good hose you can reuse it. you'll find the low side service port on the passenger side of the engine bay, and it's the only fitting that the recharge hose will fit.
hope this saves you a trip to a shop.

OMG, be sure to add refrigerant to the low pressure side, also called the suction side. If you tap into the high side the can could burst and shorten your enjoyment of life. (At least that is what I have been told.) The Low side will always be the line that runs from the evaporator (inside the car) to the compressor. The high side will always be the line that runs from the compressor to the condenser (the core in front of the car, just behind the grill). Many compressors are marked with an "S" on the suction side. If you replace a compressor make sure they match with this regard. You do not want to reverse the flow. On the X300 the low side port is on that small aluminum can that is located in the middle of the line that runs from the firewall to the compressor.
