Jaguar X300 Mesh Grill
Hey,
I've been looking at the Mina Gallery trying to figure out if I should get the mesh grill inserts on my 1995 XJ6 Vanden Plas (X300). It has the fancier grill design, so I'm not sure if the mesh mixed with that would look good or not.
However I found this on their site: http://www.minagallery.com/jagxp/Jag...lesurround.htm
It's an updated grill surround & mesh set which comes primered ready for paint. Should I get that, and get it painted the same as my car with the mesh inserts? Or just get the mesh inserts and put them into my existing Vanden Plas chrome grill?
Any help would be appreciated! I've attached photos of both my 1985 Jaguar V12 Vanden Plas and my 1995 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas! The V12 was my 2nd car at age 18 and I bought the XJ6 not long ago when I was 19.
Thanks,
MCal!

XJR 6 1997 was available with chrome grill surround + mesh
In response to the other fella who suspected the mesh grille would look poorly with the shiny surround, I respectfully submit this picture of a 1997 XJR 6 now on ebay that has shiny grill mesh and shiny surround. Turns out, it looks just fine. As a result, I will be adding that grill to my 1997 XJ6 with the boring black grill.

Funny enough...this is my car! I bought it. The chrome surround and mesh inserts were actually factory fitted by Jaguar on this particular car.

Yep, at least for 97, the "Titanium" painted XJR6s all seemed to have chrome grill surrounds and rear trunk lip. I don't know if one could get those parts painted from the factory as an alternative option for the XJR6 in 97, but every "Titanium" XJR6 I've seen in the USA had the chrome (versus painted) grill surround and rear trunk trim.
Maybe Jaguar thought the color combination just worked better?
BTW, that gold/champagne XJR above is a very sharp looking color! Very classy
I'm pretty partial the "Carnival Red" and that sapphire blue-ish color I've seen a few times as well.

My ex sovereign with chrome grill with mesh insert... I liked it.
What is interesting is, in Japan there were a few celebration limited model for Jaguar Japan 10 years anniversary in 1997, and that includes XJR with chrome grill/mesh insert.
I feel it actually a bit weird when only the grill is chromed, but if you have mirror cover, pillar, etc... everything in chrome just like sovereign/vanden plas, it doesn't look so bad.

I sent off and asked Jaguarusa for as much info as possible on my particular car, the topaz xjr in this thread. I was told that particular car was special ordered with chrome surround and trunk plinth and was factory fitted. I was also told that topaz was not a standard color in 97 for the xjr and this was a special order as well. The car is also optioned
with the walnut wood and gear shift knob with oatmeal leather, the color combo for the interior is different from most x300. I appreciate the kind words. Thanks guys

As some of you may have noticed in previous post I am not a fan of mesh grills. As an Aeronautical engineer I can tell you for certain a mesh grill with reduce the airflow to some extent. And living in a very hot climate I would not consider one for either of my cars. Besides, I don't think they look all that great. But just IMHO.

Wouldn't that rather depend on the size of the mesh gaps? i.e. makes sense if the overall area open to air flow is less than that on the standard grille, but is this really the case? Also, does it mean the XJR with its standard mesh grille is disadvantaged by reduced air flow?
