Jaguar X300 XJ6 cruise control installation
Hello again everybody. Just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to reply to my last query before I started this thread.
So, I have a 1996 XJ6 3.2 Executive. I know its not the fanciest model but its in great condition and i am looking at ways to improve on it.
So my next query is whether anybody knows how difficult it might be to install cruise control to the car.
I know there are after market systems you can buy to install yourself, but I would quite like to keep it as original as possible with original switches etc from a donor vehicle.
Would anybody on here know which parts I would need to purchase and whether there is a huge amount of installation work required.
I suppose I could purchase a donor car with it already installed and dismantle it. But it seems a bit excessive. And I currently don't have the space to park another jag.
any information is greatly appreciated.

I've never installed a cruise control but I will offer my two cents. My thinking is it could be pretty complicated to add an OEM setup from a donor car. Personally, I would lean towards an after market kit if I needed to add cruise control to one of my cars. Summit Racing has quite a few after market choices. A hybrid option might be worth considering. Get an aftermarket kit and see if you can track down the Jaguar control panel. You might be able to wire the after market components to the Jag controls so from the interior it appears stock.

For power steering (small reservoir on the right) use some variation of Red Automatic Transmission Fliud. Should say Dexron on it. Regular power steering fluid is not correct for this car. The coolant is now supposed to be the orange stuff I believe. Originally it was something different but it caused issues with the heater core. At the store it would have an orange cap.

Its very simple to move cruise control from one car to another, think I've done it three times now.

When taking parts of donor car, you will need switches, cruise module, link(to bridge an empty plug with yellow wires in the wiring behind ECU) and brake switch(if yours is early x300, later ones will have correct brake switch already) from inside the car and all the throttle bits and a pump in front of left wheel with all the bits connected to it under bonnet.
Not a difficult job, certainly helps if you've got smaller hands or you're generally a small person as some parts are of course stuffed in with barely any access. Think it took me approx. 2 hours to transfer it from my previous X300 to current one. If you've got any bulbs out in the instrument cluster, that will be the time to replace them too.
