Key fobs
I hate ebay as it's bleeding my wallet for things that don't seem to work
I've now got two three button remotes (lock, unlock buttons on both, one with book unlock button on one and alarm button on the other) and can't get either to work despite having changed batteries and tried to get car to learn to talk to them
Can't make out parts number - waiting on jewellers loupe to see if i can decipher
Any hints folks? THis is driving me up wall - cars a 1995 x300
thanks
chris

The ones with boot release and alarm function dont work with the X300. I looked into theis a while ago but i think they are just for X308's. The boot release function on X300's is operated by pressing the unlock button within 3 seconds of unlocking the car iirc. I dont think all cars have this function though.

I feel your frustration Chris.
I presume that you have followed the programming sequence for your exact year of car from the FAQ. They do seem to differ year on year.
Apparently there were two frequencies used so if your key is of a different frequency to the security module they will never work together.
My frustration is that it would appear that going back to 92 and moving forward many different designs of fob were around.
For instance my 92 is different to Caddie's 93 and so on.
I think that we would all appreciate it if someone would put a pictorial table together, showing Year and Key fob. (any takers)?
Did you succeed in getting the car to go into learning mode (it emits regular beeps)?

But for the X300 there are only two types of fob: 315MHz and 433MHz. Both are the two button design.
The fobs are indistinguishable from one another, aside from the text on the battery cover.

The plot thickens.
Been searching this for DAYS, for my X300, as the car came without fobs.
All and sundry here kept telling me my car has all teh goodies, just needs remotes to work, SWEET, but $360 each NO WAY. They also kept stating 433mhz, but reading here and elsewhere I found it could be 315mhz.
Dealer did a Vin search and said, yep, 433mhz.
Not convinced, ripped the magic box out of the boot, read the codes, 315mhz, bugga, as this is not common here.
Further discussions with "expert" locksmiths, electrical guru's, and they are claiming it is NOT just the frequency, but the signal pulse (whatever) that talks to the car, and stated that Jaguar remotes are the only ones that will work.
I am not going that way. I will get a remote interface, with 2 fobs, and tap into the "input" side of the "magic box" and enjoy. About $60. Maybe I wont have ALL the features, life goes on, but all I really want to do is lock/unlock remotely, simple.

*****STAY AWAY FROM "ORIGINAL KEYLESS" FOR REMOTE FOBS ONLINE.
I made the mistake of ordering a fob from them; never got it. Poor or no response via e-mail to my inquiries. Turns out they are a huge problem; Arizona based company. Under investigation apparently by Arizona A.G. but amazingly they are still selling online and ripping peopel off.
Original Keyless
My CC company is getting my money back.
Anyone know of a reputable place to by a 97 XJ6 VDP keyless remote, preferably new and under $200 US?

Hi Chris, been down this road myself. See the thread discussing the SLCM. There you will find out how to determine which frequency your car operates on (Antenna & the SLCM itself).
Only then will you be able to make any progress as you can then check the frequency of your fob. If they are all the same MHz then you know that's not the problem and can look elsewhere, ie. faulty fob(s) or faulty SLCM.

X 300 Fob
The best place to fine a fob for the X 300 is on the UK E-Bay.
I also have been looking every where for one and they are for sale for $90 -$150 call me cheap but I will not pay it. It is my feeling that the fobs are worth $50 or let me reword this, it is worht $50- to me to have an extra fob and if you watch the UK E-Bay under Jaguar x-300 you can find them for around that shipped. The only thing is the the only ones that I have seen are 433
I hope this is of some help

If you get a 315 remote and your car's 433 it will never work!

Chris,
I know exactly what you mean! I bought 2 different remote fobs for my 94 xj40 and i could never get them to operate. Then i read the Drivers Handbook (which i should have done before i bought the remotes) and it said that my model uses the IR remote and can't find one for sale ANYWHERE! However, i still think ebay would be the best place to continue your search. I will see what i can find.

I we can still get them, so any dealer should be able to. I would just have to search the internet for that part number. Probably a few places you could get one. If you come up dry let me know, I'll come up with one.
Cheers,
