Key stopped working

Hello everyone,
I've always been a Jag lover and I recently came across this 1996 XJ Sovereign that was parked with a "for sale" sign on it. I called the owner and she said that the reason why she was selling the car was because she once tried to unlock it and the key stopped working, she called a locksmith that made her a new key and then she was able to unlock the doors and the boot. The car also started, but it wouldn't move forwards or backwards. I don't know what could possibly be causing this issue, I would very much appreciate if someone could help me. I think it could be the Body Processor Module, but I have my doubts...

Does this one have a 3.2 or 4.0 liter engine as the shifting control is different between the 2 . ZF4HP22 or ZF4HP24
There is a round connector on the left side without jacking it up maybe loose or dirty . Without removing mine it maybe a bayonet connector so don't twist too hard and break if it is so . A bayonet connector comes off like a air hose coupler ,
Check the long connector on the transmission ECU located along the passenger side just above their feet if it is a 4.0 liter .
There is a override mode in the screw in the upper left on the light plate and it's use is in the driver's handbook
The wiring guide is link is below on page 81 and 83 ::

Is the shift handle locked from being able to move into the D detente ?

It has the 4.0 liter engine
So chances are that it's just a loose/dusty connector?
I couldn't tell you if the gear shifter is locked in place or not, the owner didn't tell me that, all she said was that the car wouldn't move. Are you sure it doesn't have nothing to do with the BPM? The owner told me that she can't operate the remote to open the car either, none of the buttons work, she already replaced the batteries.

Looking at the 4.0 liter wiring guide page 89 there is a gear shift interlock solenoid commanded through a relay in the shift column off fuse # 2 / 5 amp RH heelboard fuse box ( the # 1 is always closest to the fuse box large terminal post ) and a ground provided by the BPM .This can be accessed by removing the wood ski sloop surrounding the stereo head . There are 2 wingnuts upside down and under the ski sloop .Be very careful in removing the chrome trim surrounding the shift post as it is brittle and breaks .
The car may need a hard reset beyond the normal disconnecting of the positive battery terminal post . This will reset to a zero state the logic sequence of the Security Locking Control Unit and the BPM . This may resolve both the entry key and transmission anomaly .
