Lazy climate control X300
Hi everyone, need some guidance. I'm battling a functional but very lazy
climate control. Three questions:
1) Code 24 refers to the "Face vent demand potentiometer". Where is this
device? Or is it the face vent hot/cold thumb switch located in the center
vent assembly. I see no specs ito test against n the ROM. The switch seems fully functional, though. It *does* vary the temperature when I operate the thumb wheel
2) Code 45 refers to the center vent motor. I observed the operation of the
motor and it has all the appearances of full and normal operation
3) Code 11 refers to an aspirator motor sensor fault. The sensor is mounted
together with the motor. I see no specs on the sensor. Any help there? The
motor and tiny fan are operational.
Considering that the system does work but it simply "lazy" in terms of
temperature regulation I think that Code 11 is the most promising.
All comments and advice welcomed :-)
Cheers

Doug,
Mine was a tad "lazy" when I first got the car, no codes on the screen so I also was a little lost.
My son had a E32 BMW at the time, and they talk constantly of the "in cabin air temp sensor and fan" as the MAIN cause of a/c issues, so I thought, maybe ours has this "sniffer" also, and yes it does.
I took the under column scuttle off, and noticed the "aspirator fan" area was FULL of dust, still operating, but I thought that this amount of dust/muck was not good, so I blew it out with the compressor (on very low psi) and it did transform my a/c system significantly.

Thanks for the reply, Grant.
As it so happens I cleaned the aspirator a year or so ago (for an unrelated issue*) and it's still just as clean and pretty as can be.
Cheers

* the "unrelated issue" was a bit odd. Each morning I'd hear an odd squeeky sound whenever (and only when) I made a right hand turn. After a minute or two it would go away entirely.
Long story short it was the aspirator fan. I cleaned it and added the tiniest drop of oil to the shaft and ....silence!

Doug, glad to hear your A/C system isn't "lazy" anymore, and it didn't cost you anything.
Phantom glitches, I imagine, are confounding, but the end result in this case makes it ok.
I'm hoping to have a phantom glitch with my emission codes, but I doubt I'll be that lucky.
BTW, I'll be erasing the codes with my Innova 3130 within a few days when it arrives by UPS or US mail, whichever. Thanks for the tip on the code reader.
